Expanded Coverage

The use of technology has improved the lives of those living with diabetes. Following a recent review, GreenShield is expanding their eligibility criteria under their Glucose Monitoring System (GMS) benefit. As a reminder, under the current GMS benefit, plan members who wish to access GMS products are required to meet the following criteria:  

  • Diagnosis of type 1 diabetes (insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus), or  

  • Use of short or intermediate acting insulin in the past 4 months, or

  • Use of an insulin pump or insulin pump supplies in the past 4 months. 

Effective January 1, 2024, GreenShield members managing diabetes with any insulin type—or who require an insulin pump—will be eligible for GMS products including receivers, transmitters, and sensors where applicable.  Contact GreenShield for further information on eligiblity.
